WELLINGTON, Thursday. A would-be robber met his matcb in Mrs Goodbehere wben bp attempted to hold her up in her greengrocery in Upland,ti Road, Kelburn, last' night. >■ She was busy at-Uie back alone when she heard what she took to be a eustomer enter the shop. Going to the front she found herself face to face with a gun and a young man saying, "Put them up!" Unafraid, she challenged the man, and after a short tussle he ran away. "The instrument in the man's hand resembled a water pistol more than anything else," she said afterwards. "I knew it was not a revolver. He was only a young man, and apparently had been reading some of the Deadwood Dick tales. I looked him straight in the eye, and seeing I was not afraid he struck me twice, once on the nose and onpe on the forehead, with the instrument in his hand." She retaliated by hitting hini with a pair of pliers she had picked up. She bears evidqnce of the attack. The rqan hid pn the opposjte side of the road.. She spught assistance and the police were notified.
