Rqfe Whale-Bird. A. specimen of the whale bird was recently brought into Temuka by a Waitohi spttler who stated fhat he had found it lying dead under the telegraph wires on the Main North Rpad. The Bird is about the size of a Califorqian qail, of a dark grqy colour on the back and upper part of the body and a lighter grey underneath. The specinien was forwarded to the taxidermist qf the Canterbury Museum, who states that it is one of four species, of whale birds, not uncommon on the coasts of the South Island at this period of the year. This summer he has had a number of specimehs forwarded to him from different parts of the South Island. League of Nqtions.
