tello, put up an outstanding chopping perfprmance at the axemen's carnival held under the auspices of the Northern Athletic Union in Auckland over the week-end. Chopping against Spme of the strongest competition seen for a long time at any Northern carnival, Mr. Gostello won both the 12in. and 14in. standing chop handicaps, these events carrying with them the Plumb axe, the Plumb gold medal, and the Pax gold and silver miniature axes. In bo'th events, Mr. Costello wa§ on small handicaps, and on the reports of the judging, gave an excellent display. •

Qld Pupils' Association A meeting of the pxecutivp com- ' mittee of the Rotorua High Schpol Old Pupils' Association was held on Tuesday evening, when the new executive assumed office. The chairman, Mr: R. G. Webb, welcomed the new members in a shqrt |ntro;ductory speech. It was decided that those members whQ Wepe elected sports representatives should be present at all executive meetings in order to keep in touch wifh thpir particular hrhnches. A suggestion to hold a dance in the near future was put forWafd, but discussion was deferred until after Easter. Mr. "W- G. Harwood stated that the school hall was j-llways available for fpnetions of this description. After further business discussion, the new president of the association, Mr. HarwPQd, pxtended his good wishes to the executive, and assured them of fhe school's assistance in every pqssible way. In reply, Mr. Webb exfen^ed to him m invitation to attend all fufqre meetings of the executive. Aiigler's Success. Mr. C. M. Tallack, of India, who is spending a holiday in New Zealand, has secured some excellent bags, fishing in the Rotorua and Taupo districts. Yesterday, fishing with the fiy at Hamurana, he caught eight fish, tfie large§t of which weighed 6 Ihs.

Live shell practice on the open country off the Atiamuri Road was carried out yesterday by the 3rd Battery, First Field Brigade, N.Z.A., which is at present uiider canvas at Arawa Park.
