Police Commisioner Childs, commenting on the Bankstown disorders, said that he was determined that members of the New Guard were not going to usurp the functions of the police, which was a legally constituted body, pledged to preserve law and order. The names of at least eight members of the New Guard had been secured and prosecutions would follow, the Commissioner said.
