SUCCESSFULL MEETING HELD AT HIGH SCHOOL KEEN LADIES' CONTEST An enthusiastic sports meeting was held by the Rotorua Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club on the High School grounds on Monday evening, keenly contested events being a feature of the m,eeting. R. Dawson won the 100 yards event in a close finish from H. Steeie in 10 1-5 secs. The first to finish in the 440 yards handicap was A. Lillas, who won the event off 30 yards in 53 1-5 secs from R. Devin, off the same- mark. In the mile run, W. Young, the linrlt man, led throughout the race and, won by 10 yards from C. Randerson, who had given the winner 50 yards handicap. Good entries were again reeeived for the ladies' events and the benefit of training was witnessed in the sprint and relay races. M. Ford won the first heat of the 120 yards handicap and B. Cottrell the second, the placings in the final being in the same order, C. Cronin running third. The time for the final was 15 secs. Good jumps were recorded by the ladies in the high jump event, the best being that of A. Dodson (scr.), who cleared the bar at 4ft. 2£ins. N. Smith was the winner of the event, her jump being 3ft 8ins, plus her handicap of lOins. E. Hardie was second, her jump of 4ft 0£ins being better than that of the winner. S. Howe won the half mile cycle event from his brother, N. Howe in lm 17 3-5secs, the one mile race being won by P. Bell, the virtual scratch man, who rode a fine race to finish in 2min. 43secs. Considerable interest was created by the first discus throwing event staged by the club, five entries being reeeived. C. B. Peterson (scr.) made the best throw of 90ft. 5ins, but lost the honour of first place to I. Gainsford, who with his handicap of 25feet, won at 93ft. 2ins. J. Kelly with a throw of 64ft. 4ins, plus his handicap of 25ft, was third. N. Hinton covered the most ground 'n the hop, step and jump eompetition in clearing 37ft 9ins, but H. Steeie (9ft 9ins), reeeived the verdict at 46ft 9ins. The detailed results follow: — 100yds. Handicap: — R. Dawson (7vds), 1; H. Steeie (9yds), 2; A. Lillas (5yds), 3.
