NGONGOTAHA SUFFER LOSS BY SMALL MARGIN TO REPOROA.

N. STEVENS' GOOD KNOCK. Playing a cricket , match against Ngongotaha during the week-end, Reporoa secured the decision by a margin of 29 runs, mainly due to a fine batting contribution of 62 runs in the second innings by N. Stevens. Batting first, Reporoa made 50 runs in their first innings, R. Dunbar, who was not out with 15 runs to his credit, being chiefly responsible by adding 20 runs for the tenth wicket partnership. On the completion of their first innings, Ngongotaha, who were batting 12 men, were 15 runs short of their opponents' score, Ellis (11), being the only batsman who could reach double figures agains the bowling of N. Stevens and G. Bloomfield. 'In the second innings, Reporoa placed the result beyond doubt, 72 runs being scored before the second wicket had fallen. Although only two fours were included in his total, N. Stevens made a sterling knock of 62 runs before being caught by Emerali off the bowling of Beaumont. After the loss of the sixth wicket, very little opposition was offered by the following batsmen and the side were all out for 109 runs, leaving Ngongotaha 125 runs to secure to avoid defeat. More success attended Ngongotaha in the second innings, but when the last wicket, fell, their total was still 30 runs below the required number. Craig, the opening batsman, gave the side a good start by scoring 35 runs, Thomas being the next highest scorer with 18 runs credited to him, twelve of which he made in two hits. Good bowling was evident on both sides, Ellis (Ngongotaha), and N. Stevens and Lowry (Reporoa) each taldng seven wiclcets in an innings. Scores : —
