THROUGH EXPRESS RAILWAYS BOARD DECIDES ON EARLIER DEFARTURE HQUR LEAVES AUCKLAND AT 3 P.M. .

WELLINGTON, Thursday, The General Manager of Railways, Mr. Roussell, announces that the Railways "Board has de- » cided to change the departure time of the ordmary express from Auckland for Wellington to 3 p.m., instead of, as afc present, 7.40 p.m. To allow the public ample time to prepare for the change and in .view of the proximity of Easter, the alteration will not be made till Api'il 4. The main points of advantage setout are the provision of a service.' overy weelc-day to Wellington, an attractive Waikato service, better ;connections for the East Coast line,: and; more suitable timing for the King Country and National Park. - It is also pointed out that the train, will enable the Auckland mail to - reach New Plymouth hy 1 .p.m. and - Napier by 12.56 p.m., with a corres- " ronding improvement at intermediate - stations in the Hawke's Bay, Wan-; ganui and Taranaki areas. In regard to passengers to and from stations Taihape to Feilding in- . "lusive and to and from Wanganui, * the board gave every eonsideration « to the residents of these areas, and is fully cognisant of the position, but ihe matter had to be regarded from ihe point of view of the interests of'\e travelling public generally, and Fe great body of opinion was definhely in favour of the proposal.
