THIRTY-SEVEN MEN FI-NED FOLLOWING POLICE RAID AUCKLAND, Wednesday. Fines totalling £145 were imposed on 37 of 40 men, who appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court on gaming eharges, made as a result of a raid by detectives on premises in Queen Street. Raymond Lewis, said hy ChiefDetective Hammond, to have been the operator of a pakapoo bank, was fined .£50, and one of his assistants was fined £25. "This is the first time in my experience that a European has been eharged with operating a pakapoo bank," Mr. Hunt said. The game is being condueted on a very large scale in Auckland, and has eaught on with a certain type. Lewis had heen in court previously for bookmaking.
