The particular stoat conducted a massacre iiva fpwl run of 15 birds before being brought to book, whilst the weasei ereated sad havoc amongst some yoiing pheasants, which a well-lcnown local sportsman was rearing.
Low Level of Lake ' . The member for the district, Mr. C. li. Ciinkard, . ' and , the district Tourist Department manager, Mr. L. J. Bayfeild, met the Rotorua launch owners yester'day morning on the wharf to discuss the question of the continued lbw level of Lake Rotorua.. It was pointed out by the launch owners that the water was now so shallow at the inlet to the Ohau Channel that all launches had difficulty in travelling between the lalces and some were unable to negotiate the passage at all. Mr. Ciinkard said that he r ecognised the serious position the boat owners were in and that he appreciated the fact that something would have to be done to meet the position. The level of the lake was still dropping, and iri many cases the lower lying flats had been uncovered.
Band Concert. ' A very enjoyable concert was given in the Government Gardens last evening hy the Rotorua Mupicipal Band, conducted by Lieuf. E. Tregilgas. The programine was as follows: — March,' "Kitchener's dwn;" Overiture, "Silver Star;" Trombone solo, "Thoinas * Cat;" Selection, "Rose Marie;" March, "Flying Squad;" Pot Pourri, "Musical Switch;" Tone Picture, "In Old Tibet;" One Step, "My Temptation." The band had a very heavy week. In addition to playing at Arawa Park on Saturday, Monday and [Tu^sday, the band has { given three concerts since Friday last; on Friday evening, Sunday everiipg and last evening. The next concert will be on Sunday evening next, F'ebruary 21 at 8,30 p.m.
Tauranga Bowling The Tauranga Bowling Club's thirteenth annual tournament was further advanced yesterday, when games in the fourth round were reached. In section two, Smith (Hamilton), 24, defeated Fowkes (Rotorua), 19, in the third rqund. Fowkes was again beaten in the fourth round of this section by Wykes (Te Aroha), by 16 to 17. Stewart (Matamata), 18, was defeated by Noonan (Te Awamutu) , 22, in the third round of section two, but gained a victory in the fourth round against Graham (Remuera), by 30 to 11. In the same section, Sloane (Whakatane), 16, lost to Lewis (Tauranga), 31, in round three, and again lost in the next round to Broolces (West End), by 14 to 25.
