RELIEF WORKERS' GARDENS

' DISGUSTED.

(To the Editor.) Sir, — In your issue of the 15th inst., appears a letter signed "B. Dan- t iels" and in reply I may say that that i gentleman is a little erratic. He j states that at no time was one man ; in charge of the vegetable shed, and | further on he contradicts himself. j He further states that the time of j delivery was not altered from 4 p.m. I to 11 a.m. According to his own j statement it was worse still: it was j altered . to 10.30 a.m. Mr. Daniels j states that the alterations of times j were advertised. j I understand that a piece of dirty paper was hung on a nail at the vegefable shed last Saturday. Some of the men were looking for vegetables, and on going to the council office were told that on any alteration or change of time of delivery, a notice would appear on the office slide, hut no notice apeared. They heard afterwards that this time the alteration was not a few hours, but a whole day. If a notice of any change is tacked on the wall at the proper place, it will he seen hy all, hut if it is stuck up anywhere men do not know where to look for it. i A piece of paper hung on a nail open to all wind could not be expected to stay there very long. Mr. Daniels says that experience has shown that hy 5.30 p.m. all the families are supplied. He forgets that up to last i week the men were finished work at I 4.30, but now the time they cease | work is 5 p.m. He further states that j the number of families supplied with i vegetables, haS increased: if this is j so Mr. Daniels will find that a large I number of them are new on the list. I I doubt this, however, a few men have left the relief works in the last ! fortnight. , I would suggest that the Council make the garden party sticlc to one time and day for delivery and when a notice is put up, to put it in the proper place. I said a man with a dozen of a family got 71bs of potatoes. The correct number of that family was 10 and 7lbs of potatoes was his ration. Mr. Daniels did not tell us what size family the man has who got the sack. — I am, etc.
