BOWLING TOURNEY NARROWING DOWN

YESTERDAY'S PLAY section finals should be reached to-day . INTERESTING POSITION The Rotorua Bowling Club's tournament has now reached an interesting stage, and with the conclusion of the section play in sight to-day, the semi-finalists will be known on Friday with a possibility of the final being decided the same afternoon. Yesterday 's play took the sections to the ninth ' round, and even at this advanced stage of the section play, no one rinlc has so far earned a semifinal position. Play yesterday was particularly iriteresting and several rinks which were occupying good positions went down to teams which had so far not enjoyed a great measure of success. The issue in Section A appears to lie between Whittle (Grey Lynn), who has seven wins and two iosses, and Higgott (Carlton), who has six wins and two losses. Both Whittle and Higgott are playing well, and appear likely to reach the section final together. The position is interesting in Section B, where Russell (Remuera) and Chiplin (Rawhiti) are together with seven wins and two losses apiece, but with Truscott (Carlton), Fowkes (Rotorua), and Gall (Whitiora) close behind, all with six wins and three losses. Section C is headed by Gardiner (Otahuhu), Robertson (Onehunga) and Pakes (Rotorua), who have six wins and three losses. Close behind them, however, are Caddy (Grey Lynn), Neilson (Karori), and Gladding (Carlton), who have all five wins and three losses, but have their ninth games uncompleted. The most clear-cut position is in Section D, where the Auckland rink skipped by Maxwell Walker has e-ight wins and one loss. Hollard (Putaruru), Ritchie (Carlton), and Bremner (West End), however, have all six wins and three losses, and if Walker fails to win his next games, have all chances for the section final. Walker met his first check yesterday when he was defeated 26-18, by Putaruru rink skipped by Hollard, after a very interesting game. Hollard is playing particularly well and will issue a very strong challenge to the Dominion champion. Conditions yesterday were again difficult as the wind which developed on Tuesday still persisted.
