GRAND THEATRE
TO-NIGHT "The Last Parade," the Columbia picture which is now screening at the Grand Theatre, is one of the most stirring pictures of the year. The first two sequenees are partieularly spectacular, serving as a fine beginning for a screen attraction of dramatic tensity, which develops logicaliy and moves rapidly toward an unexpected climax. The plot revolves around two typical New York characters, Cookie Leonard, a newspaper reporter, and Michael O'Dowd, a policeman. Both fall in love with pretty Molly Pearson. Cookie, broke and hungry^ eventually becomes a gangster. He quarrels with a rival czar of racketeers, one Marino, and then puts him on the spot to' avenge the murder of Molly Pearson's brother. The law steps in with disastrous results for Cookie Leonard. Jack Holt and Tom Moore head the cast. Although the wise-cracking type of role is an innovation for Holt, he contributes a splendid performance. Moore makes the irascible Mike a loving character and Constance Cummings is charming in the role of Molly Pearson. The supporting cast includes such artists as Jess De Vorska, Rohert Ellis, Vivi and Gaylord Pendleton.
