The Japanese. naval part of the campaign at Shanghai appears to be near4ng , completion v/ith the .destruction of all cover at Chapei and the surrounding districts. T-he intehsive. bombardment has forced the Chinese into the open country. , A Japanese division intend landing at Liuhuo, 20 miles from the Shanghai .mouth of the Yangtse, preparatory to mov'ng forward and attacking the -Chinese flank in open warfare. £ The Japanese will probably drive the Chinese back on Shanghai. There was heavy firing all night, the Japanese shelling Chapei and Kiangwai districts which are now completely gutted. - The Chinese are still offering considerable resistance.
