JUDGE'S COMMENT ON CHARGE AGAINST DECKE EVIDENCE , CIRCUMSTANTIAL
— By Telegraph — Copyright).
PALMERSTON N., Tuesday At the opening of the Criminal Sessions to-day His Honour, Mr. Justice McGregor, referring to the charge pi;eferred against Norman Robert Decke, a young farm hand, said in fairness to the accused he did not propose to go into the evidence. There was no doubt the unfortunate man, Blakeway, had been murdered by being shot with a rifle. The only question was whether there was sufficient evidence to bring the crime home to accused, who appeared to be jealous over Blakeway regarding the affeetions of a young girl, and it was suggested that this was the motive for the crime. The evidence against accused was merely cireumstantial. A true bill was returned and the hearing will take place next Monday.
