— By TeH?ra.ph — Copyright.)

Rec. Feb. 3, 12.10 a.m. SHANGHAI, Wednesday. Pandemonium was let loose last night when the eity was plunged into darkness, following the Japanese bombardment, the Chinese rushing from their houses and scrambling and fighting to escape into the outer regions. The great Chang Sung River presented a river flowing with humanity and every type of craf-t loaded with baggage as well as humans. The city was practically deserted at daybreak. The Japanese marines landed after the shelling and now occupy a line along the waterfront. A clash seems inevitable. It is reported that the shells did comparatively little damage.
