COUNCIL ECONOMIES
UNCLE
JIM.
Sir, — I understand that at the last meeting of the Borough Council, they instructed the assistant engineer to draw up a scheme for economising. Now, let us hope he does not follow the usual custom of putting off a few of the small paid men, but starts from the high paid officials. We known from past experience of municipal councils there are always position created for the high salaried man. If they were managed more on the lines of a private business, I think they would find their working expenses could be reduced by half. I think a good idea would be to publish a balance sheet every year so that the public could see how their money was being spent they would take more interest in the municipal elections and have a better idea how vnte — I am. etc..
