MAJESTIC
TO-NIGHT Providing a pictorial treat that strained the emotions land evoked intense human interest as well, "Doctors' Wives," Fox drama of marital strife and its adjustment in the medical fraternity, opened last night at the Majestic Theatre. The story revolves around the marriage of New York's most successful young surgeon with an assistant in his researeh laboratory. After six months of marital happiness, conflict enters the drama in the form of suspicions and doubts in the young bride's heart which are suddenly corroborated, in her mind, when she inadvertently discovers what she thinks is an affair between her husband and one of his charming patients. She seeks consolation in the arms of another doctor, her husband's lifelong friend. This, she soon finds, is not what she wanted. Under an assumed name she takes up nursing. How this transforms her previous opinions of her husband, his work, and his strength, forms the dramatic climax of the picture. Warner Baxter, as "Dr. Jude Penning," the surgeon, has in this role undoubtedly added another distinguished canvas to his gallery of screen portraits. Joan Bennett proves by her finished artistry in the difficult role of the idealistic girl who marries him, that she i§ deserving of the honours that have been heaped upon her for her recent screen work.
