superintendent retires after 30 years service

WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The retirement is announced of Mr W. W. Bird, the superintendent of Native arid Island Education. . Duririg his 30 years' service with the Education Department, Mr Bird travelled extensively in the outlying districts frqm Gape Maria Van Diemeri in the North: to Stewart Island in the South, also in Co.ok Islarids, the Chatham, Island? and Sa- ■ moa.
