Rec. Jan. 26, 11 p.m. SYDNEY, Tuesday. ^ Aijr Commpdore Kingsfqrd Smith ,has received a hint that there is no hope that the Commonwealth. Government will lind him an aviation job or provide a subsidy for a London air mail owing to shortage of funds. It was stated to-day, that he would probably go to New Zealand to reside. , "Smithy" piloting the Southern Cross mde many pleasure trips over the city with up to 17 passengers on each trip.
Court the North Island champion in the second round. Barnett, "Wilson, the France brothers, Bartleet, Laurenson, Sturt and Angas, all seeded players, were successful in their matches in the second round. Miss Lloyd, the manageress of the New South Wales ladies, played for the first time in Auckland, and made a good start in the ladies singles, defeating Miss Miller. All the other ladiqs of the visiting team were suecessful in the first round, while in the second ronnd Mrs Molesworth aecounted for Mrs Napier.
