MANAWAHE- WOMEN'S INSTITUTE SUCCESSFUL OUTING

ROTOMA, Friday. The Manawahe Women's Institute held their annual picnic on the shores of Lake Rotoma on Wednesday. The weather was glorious, and there was a la'rge attendance of members and visitors from the Whakatane, Edgecumbe and Awakeri institutes. Many amusing competitions were held, chief of which was the ' buneating for boys. . The picnic grounds presented a gay sight, and a very enjoyable day was spent. The following are the results of the competitive events: — Senior bun-eating: Keith Rendal. Junior bun-eating; James Farrelly. Women's nail-driving : Mrs. McDonald. Men's nail-driving: Mr. J. Rendall.
