DOUBLE ACCIDENT
" unusual smash ' CAR, 'STRUCK OMCE, IS HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE COLLISION NEAR NGONGOTAHA An unusual "double' 'accident, in which a motor car, already damaged in a collision, was struck a second time by a passing vehicle, occurred on the Ngongotaha Road during the early fiours of Saturday morning. The two parties to the original accident were Mr. M. J. Hefferen of Rotorua, and Mr. R. Morgan, also of Rotorua. Mr. Hefferen was proceeding in the direction of Ngongotaha and Mr. Morgan, who was driving a delivery truck, was proceeding in the opposite direction. The cause of the accident is not known, but apparently the two vehicles collided at a spot about two and a half miles from Ngongotaha. Both were considerahly damaged and in order that the matter should be investigated immediately, the poliee in Rotorua were advised. The delivery van struck the car a glancing hlow and was turned completely round by the force of the impact. Senior Sergeant Carroll left straight away for the scene of the accident and his taxi had just pulled up ahehd of Mr. Hefferen's car, when a third car, proceeding from Ngongotaha, collided with the standing vehicle. This car, whieh was driven by Mr. George Rehe, of Rotorua, was not seriously damaged, but both Mr. Hefferen's car and the delivery van were put out of commission. None of the drivers or the passengers in the vehicles were injured.
