TREMENDOUS TASK.
WALKER* ARRIVES IN ROTORUA ON TOUR ROUND THE V/ORLD EXPERIENCED PEDESTRIAN On the first stage of a walking trip round tbe world, Mr Micbel 'Stadwicki an Auckland resident, arrived in Rotorua yesterday and will remain here for two days before proceeding South. Mr. Stadwicki, who is a Pole by nationality, has already accomplished one notable walking feat, by making tho North to South tour of South America on foot. This journey,' through some of the most rugged and ieast known country in the world oct cupied three yeax-s and entailed over 15,000 miles of walking. At one time Mr. Stadwicki followed the sea, but for the last 15 years has been engaged exclusively on walking t.ours, which he hopes will culminate in a successful round the world trip. Ho has been officially started by the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association and earries credentials to that effect from the president and secretary of the association, in addition to a certificate from the Mayor of Auckland. Mr. Stadwicki reached Rotorua by way of Hamilton and has obtained the signature of the Mayor and the town seal of Hamilton to mark the first stage of his tremendous journey. After leaving Rotorua, Mr Stadwicki will proceed South to the Bluff and thence to Australia and India as the next stages of -his journey. ^ .. , . Mr. Stadwicki speaks six languages and is making a colleetion of photographs on his travels. He hopes to return to Auckland at the conclusion of his tour and settle in New Zealand.
