BRIDGE OPENING

GRAF ZEPPELIN MAY VISIT SYDNEY. COMPANY WILLING. SYDNEY, Jan. 10. The tentative proposal made repently that the Graf Zeppelin should come out for the opening of the Harbour Bridge may bear fruit. The idea of inviting the giant air liner was advanced another stage by receipt of an unofficial indication from the controlling company that the flight would be made if the Commonwealth Government made no objection and the State Government agreed to issue an invitation. The company would recoup itself for the cost of the trip by the carriage of passengers, as has been done on other long flights. Officials of the State Government have consulted the Returned Soldiers' League. That body has not offered any objection to the proposed visit. The next step will be consideration of the proposal by the State Government, and if it is decided to issue an invitation the approval of the Commonwealth Government will be sought. The Harbour will be a pool of silver and the sky will be aglow with the reflection of the most brilliant display of floodlighting that the city has even seen on the night of the opening. / Under the concentration of hundreds of floodlights, the arch will stand out like an arc of silver across the night sky. On the harbour there will be a riot of colour from the swaying lanterns of a Venetian carnival, and soft music will float across the water. The best illumination engineers in Sydney are planning the night display. With the recent experience of flood lighting displays in London to guide them, they will create some very beautiful effects in the treatment of city buildings.
