For" some time past Mr Waugh" has* not' "been enjoying good health' and he decided to act upon the a^vice of Mr; Sc'hiriidt; New Zealand publicity agent in New South Wales, and visit ~ Rotorua. Since his arrival a' Week - ago' he has bee-n taking a course of baths and although he has not yet beeri able to abanden his crutches he' has benefitted consider"I "hope'to benefit so mrich," he said 'to a "Post"' represfentative last night, "that when T go home I shall be a living' eXample of what can be done by a "visit- tb Rotorua."
Mr Waugh has been a member of the Albiity Mfinicipal Cotmcil for 28 years and *Mayof"13 times, so he is nattirally interested in local Government affair's, arid was pleased'to have an opportunity of meeting the Mayor Of Rotorua,' Mr. T; Jackson, ye'stetday afternoon. The visitor was taken for a drive aroiind Lake. Rotorua to Olcere Falls and the power station. 'He was much impressed by the beatify of the seenery and the places of interest visited in the borough. ■ '
In Albury, he said, they had a very beautiful toWn so far as the planting of tre'es, etc., was concerned, arid tbe work tbere had been going on for 20 years He was, therefore, pleased to have an opportunity of inspecting the plans which had been prepared for the beautifieation of Rotorua and considered th'em extremely valuable. They would be a fine guide to work by. It Was not to be expected that the work would be attempted all at once but the- plans would be a material help in the future. The programme prepared was well worthy of the support of the public. Mr. Waugh said he confidently believed that there was a big future^ before Rotorua and that people would be attracted here from all over the world. The town was well worthy of the money which had been spent upon it. "I only wish," he said, "that we had your advantages in New South Wales." * Mr. Waugh expressed the' belief that Australians would visit Rotorua in increasing riumbers in the fnture iri pref erence to going to other places. The Government was doing good publicity work in'New South Wales *and the' co'mpetition between the Union and 'Mats'on Shipping • Companies shoiild alsh help to promote tourist traffic. The hotels in'New Zealand Were also of- a very high standard and provided" evefy' comf orf. ' * " : * Mr. Waugh, who1 is accompariied by his sister., Mrs Pardy, will remain in Rotorua until the completion of their holiday in about a week's time.
