GOLD DETAINED

HINDOO ATTEMPTS TO TAKE OVERSEA WITHOUT LICENSE WELLINGTON, Friday. Shortly before the Maunganui left Wellington to-day for Sydney, Customs officials detained a Hindoo passenger who was found to be in possession of a sum of money in gold, believed to be about £100. The regulations provide tbat tbe rnaximqm sum of £5 in gold currency may be exported from New Zealand with permission of a Collector of Customs, or any larger sum with the permissiop of the Minister of Finance. . The Hindoo was permitted to leave by the Maunganui, but the gold was detained by the Customs authorities.
