"DIANE DEVELOPS"
One of the brightest amateur production staged in Rotorua for some time had its premiere at the Majestic Theatre last week, when Messrs. Cardston and Baxter produced the rollicking musical comedy "Diane Develops," and the season will be continued to-night and to-morrow night. From start to finish the play continued on a high plane of excellenee, the work of the principals, chorus and ballet being exceptionally talented. Many of Rotorua's most popular amateurs took part and the season was opened most promisingly, the final curtain being rung down amidst a spontaneoua display of enthusiasm on the part of the audience. Delightful frocking and ingenious appointments were features of the .production, of which Messrs. Cardston and Baxter and their talented company may well have been proud. The work of the chorus and ballet is beyond cavil, and the dancing included in the production is of a high standard. The Imperial Ballet is highly reminiscent of "The Kinkajou" of "Rio Rita," and last week received prolonged applause which for a few moments held up the action of the play. The fashion parade in the , third act was delightful, and must have appealed especially to the ladies in the audience. Musically, the production was well handled by an orchestra conducted by Mr. Norris and, taken as a whole, the play was eminently satisfactory as an amateur pertormance. The frocks used in the mannequin parade are supplied by the Priscilla Art Depot.
