WEEK OF PRAYER
WORLD EVANGELICAL ALLIANCE Sir, — Rotorua observed the Week of Prayer in connection with the now world-wide evangelical alliance, who is endeavouring- to foster the true spirit of Christianity; in a universal brotherhood. It was at the instigation of the Rev. F. H. Spencer, who has been a member of The alliance for some 39 years, that the invitation was given and the meetings were- held in the Presbyterian Church. Mr. Spencer, in explaining the movement, divelt on the now.universal observanee of the alliance and showed how that, in many mission fields it had brought together the members of different churches to discuss many questions common to all. The meetings, he said, are gen:rally concluded with the observanee of the Lord's Supper, which all partake in common. "That the realisation of holding ihe essential features of the common faith is obtaining a world-wide hold," Mr. Spencer said, "is shown by the way in which the South India group of Christians have set an example of union. Christianity also has been mtroduced into the gatherings at the renowned conference at Jerusalem, and at Uganda, and it seems to be me of the fixtures at Keswick and elsewhere." The Rev. A. C. Randerson and the Rev. W. H. Speer also took part in he meetings held in the Presbyteran Church, and the hope was expressed that many would realise the privilege of assembling in ever . inrreasing numbers, and that the feeling of many that they could best serve their Master by keeping to their )wn denominations would be replaeed xy a realisation that the scattered, ;eparated present form of Christian ife would do far more when united n mutual action.
