It beeam necessary to pla~e the matter in th. haPds of the police, with the resul that a watch was kept and on Satur day afternoon Constable Kelly do tected William I'ayne going throug] the poekets of some clothes. Payn. was immediately taken into custody and yesterday morning appeared be fore Messrs. C riffiths and Larnach J.P's, charged with the theft of 2s G ] the property of Terence Ward Grecn slade. „ Accused pleaded guilty and wa . admitted to probation for 12 months during which period he is not to entc a public house in Rotorua.
