OHINEMUTU HAV/KER FINDS HOUSE KANSACKED MAN CONVICTED OF THEFT When, after the absence of about an hour on the morning of Decembei 24, Sukha Kana Pate-1, a licensec! hawker, of Ohinemutu, returned to hi; home, he found the house had beer ransacked and verious artieles stolen He missed a blue serge coat valued al £3 3s, a pair of trousers worth £1 17i6d, a handkerch'ef and 5s in money making up a total loss of £5 14s. H: did not report the theft, but on Janu ary 8 he saw a man named Edward R. Withers, alias Whitney, wearing his good clothing. Fatel asked foi an explanation, but as it was not satisfactory he placed the matter ii the hands of the. police, with the re sult that Withers appeared yesterda;. morning before Ivlessrs. Griffiths an; Larnach, J.P's, to answer to a chargof theft. Aceused who had saveral pre vious convictions on reeord, pleada; guilty and was senteneed to three months' hard labour .
