OLD MAN WHO WORICED WITH BISHOP SELWYN EIGHTY YEARS IN DOMINION

PALMERSTON N., Monday. ! It is believed that a man who was jfound drowned in the Manawata ;River on Sunday, is Sam Dennis, of ? Invercargill, aged 82 years. ' This information was furnished to the police by a resident of Palmerston North, who read the description published in the morning paper. He said that Dennis 'called at his house on Saturday morning and declared that he was destitut-e and hungry. He told the householder that he was from Invercargill and that he was two years of age when he arrived in New Zealand. He added that he had been in Auckland 80 years ago. He further stated that he had lived with Bishop Selwyn and had assisted him to translate the New Testament into Maori, He also said that he had no relatives in the Dominion and that his f ather who was in the Royal Engineers, had been drowned in Auckland.
