WELLINGTON UNEMPLOYED MAKE STATEMENT TO PRESS WORK OR SUSTENANCE WANTED
— By Telegraph — Copyright).
WELLINGTON, Saturday. Following a meeting of unemployed this morning a large body of men went to the newspaper offices with a view to making a public statement on behalf of the men. Two men, Messrs T. Kelly and L. Parsloe, were admitted to the premises of the "Evening Post." They said the position of relief workers and the unemployed had become intolerable. Rations and felief had been reduced and now single men were to get no work after February 13. The men were in a dilemma. They were being thrown out of their homes and were losing everything they had saved. The men thought the period had been reached when the Unemployment Board could not give work, and payment of sustenance should be made according to the provisions of the Act. In view of the approach of winter some bold step must be taken to provide for the men, women .and children. In lieu of sustenance there should be continuity of work.
