Rec Jan. 7, 7 p.m. MADRID, Thursday. Fierce rioting at Armedo resulted in seven deaths, including four women, a centenarian, and a child in its mother's arms. Ten men and, five women were seriously injured. The outbreak followed the dismissal of eight factory workers, resulting in a strike. The demonstrators, screened by women and children, rushed towards the Civil Guard. A rioter seized a guardsman's rifle and broke it in three pieces, and another shot a corporal in the leg. The guards then fired into the crowd. The roads around Armedo are strewn with tacks to prevent the arrival of reinforcements. The police have received information of plots in various parts of the country indicating a wide-spread conspiracy. Three Socialist Ministers in the Cabinet have opened a fund for the families of the Armedo victims. Twenty Socialist deputies attended the funeral.
