Lyons, Prime Minister, announced that Mr. S. M. Bruce has been given first place in the Cabinet seniority list, after himself and Mr. Latham. "His past experience and high qualifications," said Mr. Lyons, "entitle Mr. Bruce to a st'atus not usually accorded assistant Ministers." Mr. Lyons denied that Mr. Gullett's appbintment as Minister of Trade and Customs will mean the tearing down of the tariff structure. The Minister's task will be to see that the tariff is framed in the interests of the whole nation and not of sections. 4
