BUDGET BALANCE SLIGHT RISE IN PRICES. SINCE ABANDONMENT OF GOLDr VALUES OF CURRENCY

Jan. 7, 11.44 p.m. ' LONDON, Thursday. • The Board of Trade Journal figures show that since Great Britain went off the gold standard, food prices show an average increase of five per cent., and industrial' materials of about^iine per cent. The "Financial News" expresses the opinion that there is a likelihood of a balance of the budget this year, while both "France and the United" States will havfe a considerable deficit. This will in due course, lead people, both here and abroad, to revise their opinions" of the intrinsic value of the respective currencies.
