BUILDINGS UNROOFED NEW PLYMOUTH SWEPT BY HURRICANE LAST EVENING NEARLY ELECTROCUTED

-By Telegraph — Copyright).

NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday. A woman was almost electrocuted, buildings were unroofed, the roofs of houses were smashed in, and flying sheets of iron were carried hundreds of yards, when a wind of hurrieane force swept the suburb of Fitzroy, during the course of a short but severe storm which swept New Plymouth between five o'clock and six o'elock to-day. Carried off by the wind, the roof of a tennis elub pavilion was blown on to the roof of a nearby house, completely smashing in one side. Pieces of flying roofing iron brought down the electric power board's high tension wires, which fell across the street which was sheeted in water. Mrs M. I. Craig, seeking her daughter, stepped on to a piece of iron in the water and was knocked down by an electric shock. She was rescued only when helpless, her rescuers, after about five minutes, succeeding in pushing the fallen wire away from the water with a pole. She is suffering from shock and from burns on both legs.
