"WIZARD" SMITH'S ATTEMPT ON LAND SPEED RECQRD BEACH CONDITION WORSE

-By Telegraph — Copyright.)

NINETY MILE BEACH, Tuesday. Mechanics were working on the F. H. Stewart Enterprise at Hukatere last evening and to-day are overhauling her to see that no eorrosion had taken place and tightening the bolts loosened on the trip from Sydney. An expert is supervising the work. Everything is ready for "Wizard" Smith's venture. The beach is still bad, even worse than yesterday, and it does not seem that it will be ready by the weekend, while the tide would be favourable for the attempt. Secrecy is being kept regarding the engine and the car and two men are on guard at the garage night and day. Mr. Harkness is likely to return to Sydney on Friday.
