WEEK OF PRAYER
WORLD- WIDE MOVEMENT ENTERS EIGHTY -FIFTH YEAR 'It is an amazing thing to be able to'make one voice reach a million. It is equally amazing for a million oi more voices to be focussed on Oue living Person at the same time. That is what really happens whena million or more people pra-y. The voices may be in a hundred differenlanguages and dialects. Would it not be even more amazing if this unitv could be unity of concerted though and feeling as well as of voice — if al! were moved by the same desire and eagerness for the same end! Yet thi.- ; is the miracle achieved by the Uni- - versal Week of Prayer. During the week commeneing witl the first Sunday in Jauary each year in a hundred dilferent laads girdiinj the globe, Christians of every nam 1 unite daily, both privately and n • groups, in asking God for the sam blessings and in giving thanks for the same mercies. The Week of Prayer ' whieh started just eighty-four year. ago, in 1846, has been made a pattern for others of a local or sectiona1 nature, but the special feature of the Universal Week of Prayer is that ii is world-wide, national, international denominational, inter-denominational For over eighty-four years, withoin one year being missed, it has been or ganised by the Woidd's Evangelieal Alliance and is expanding more and more, so that now in all the countrie* of Europe, in every Continent, and the Islands of the Seas, the Week of Prayer is observed, enabling those who follow Christ to realise and manifest their oneness, breaking down eeclesiastical barriers, turning the clasb of colour into spiritual affinity, and for the individual any sense of isolation or loneliness into realisation >' fellowship with others in the pres ence of God.
