FRANCSS CUP ROTORUA TEAM SUCCESSFUL IN WINNING TROPHY TOURNAMENT AT OPOTIKI The Rotorua team of bowlers under the leadership of Mr. A .French, whieh competed at Opotiki on January 1, 2 and 3 for the Franeis Cup, were successful in winning the trophy after a steadily played game . in the final. This trophy is for competition among the bowling clubs in the Bay of Plenty. Two teams from Rotorua were among the challengers for the cups and the one skipped by Mr. French, after losing the first game, was successful throughout the remainder of the tournament. They won their seetion with comparative ease and in the final against Te Puke, the other section winners, they held a small lead right from the start. The final score was 18 — 15. Mr. A. French in conversation with a "Posfc" representative said that: although his team was not regardeci in Rotorua as very strong the members played very steadily. He particularly mentioned his lead and second, Messrs. Morland and Brackebush, who played aceurate bowls throughout the tournament. Mr. French also remarked on the wonderful hospitality extended the Rotorua teams while at Opotiki. This aided by excellent organisation of matches and fine weather, combined to make their visit very pleasant. He concluded with special reference to the fine sporting spirit whieh prevailed throughout the tournament; not a s'ngle moment b'eing spoiled by a Jack of harmony. .
