GANDHI'S ARRIVAL LEADS TO RENEWED DISTURB AN CES StN BOMBAY "UNTOUCHABLES" HOSTILE
— By Telegraph — Copyright).
DELHI, Monday. With the arrival of the Indian Congress l,eader, Mahatma Gandhi, at Bombay this morning, on his return from the India Round Table Confer-
ence in London, the city of Bombay witnessed the revival of disturbances from which it had been remarkably free during the past few months. While members of Congress had planned an elaborate reception, members of the untouchable cast, declaring that Gandhi had neglecetd their claims at the London conference, greeted the Congress chief with hostile cries and processions in which they carried black flags. Shortly before dawn 1000 untouchables marched to the pier, where they were confronted by a similar number of Congress members. Fighting ensued, in which twelve Congress members, including two leaders, were injui'ed. Gandhi landed at eight o'clock and was almost hidden by garlands of flotvers presented to him by women. He drove to the Congress headquarters, ignoring a decorated car which had been placed at his disposal, and demanded details of the situation throughout the country.
