Addressing a mass meet- ; ing at Bombay he said he would not flinch in sacrificing a million Iives for India's liberty. He invited the country to be ready to fight and added he did not expect to exercise the same restraint upon himslf as he had previously if it came to taking a strong step. He emphasised that in the last fight they had had to face police staves; this time it would be bullets. Gandhi, who expressed grief at the murder of Mr. Stevens, at Comilla, said he had no intention of seeing the Viceroy as reported.
