BOWLER ON TOUR

some experiences THE GAME ABROAD AND IMPRESSIONS OF TRAVEL PROMINENT WELLINGTON SKIP After an absence of eighteen months, in which they have visited the United States, Canada, England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, France, Holland and Belgium, Mr. and Mrs. Peter McWhannell, of Hataitai, arrived back in Wellington last week. Frequently getting off the beaten track, they have had some unique and interesting experiences, enjoying a delightful holiday without a dull moment in it. Mr. McWhannell is a,member of Hataitai Bowling Club and one of the leading skips, and when he put in an appearance at the green on Saturday afternoon he was given a cordial welcome home. At the tea interval the president, Mr. D. Keen, expressed the pleasure of the members in having the wanderer back among them. Mr. McWhannell, who was a member of the New Zealand bowling team which took part in the Empire Games in Canada, said he was glad to be back among his fellow bowlers, and from his experience he could say that in no other country was bowls followed up as it was iri New Zealand, neither had they such perfect greens as were to be found here. Further, with the exception of Australia, bowlers did not adopt uniform dress to anything like the extent that was done in the Dominion, usually turning up in civilian dress. In the course of a lengthy tour through Canada they were treated -with the ut.most hospitality, and Canadian. bowlers who had visited New Zealand sent good wishes to the many friends they had made in the Dominion.
