RUAPEHU TRAGEDY
MEMORIAL TO LATE MR. WARWICK STANTON To perpetuate the memory of Mr. Warwick Stanton, who lost his life no Mount Ruapehu when a party of Auckland University students were caught in a blifczard in September last, his parents gave a silver cup to the Waitaki Boys' High School, where their son was educated. The.trophy is to be presented each year to the winner of the junior cross-country championship, and the winner will also receive a miniature of the trophy. The rector of Waitaki, Mr. F. Milner, C.M.G., in presenting the cup to its first winner, paid a high tribute to the boy whose memory the award will perpetuate. The inscription on the cup is as follows: — "In memory of Joseph Warwick .Stanton, who lost his life on Mount Ruapehu, September, 1931, in an effort to bring suecour to his friends."
