daring thief RELEASED FROM PRISON IN MORNING, ARRESTED SAME NIGHT TOOK CAR FOR JOY-RIDE

WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Diseharged from prison yesterday morning, after serving a sentence of three months' imprisonment for stealing money from a motor bus, Lindsay Edward Garner, panel beater, aged 21 years, converted a motor car to his own use, and was arrested in Customhouse Quay after he had been chased by constables through the city streets. Garner appeared before Mr. T. B. McNeil, S.M., at the Police Court, this afternoon, and was sent back to gaol for a further term of three months. Sub-Inspector Lopdell stated that the car was taken from the city early last night and accused with §nother man and some girls, toolc it to a party at Kaiwarra. The car was reported missing last night, and Constable Grant saw it going up Taranaki Street and followed it up to Willis Street, where he saw a man and three girls get out. When he reached the car, he saw accused sitting in the driver's seat, and also another girl. As the constable approached, accused started the car, but the constable jumped on to the running board, and although Garner swerved the car from side to side in an endeavour to shake him off, he managed to stop it. Accused then jumped out of the car and ran down Ghuznee Street into Sturdee Street, where Constable Fletcher took up the chase and ultimately arrested him in Customhouse Quay.
