TO DRIVE CHINESE FROM EAST MAN CHURIAN PROVINCES FORMAL ULTIMATUM WAIVED

Rec. Dec. 21, 11 p.m. SHANGHAI, Monday. Waiving the formality of an ultimatum, the Japanese army in Manchuria to-day began a drive aiming at the total eradication of Chinese influence in the three Eastern Provinces in Manchuria and having the provisional seat of Government as the main objective. An earlier message from Tokio stated that it was reported that fighting commenced last evening. A Japanese aerial attaek, pending the arrival of troops, was opposing 10,000 Chinese regulars, who are moving to the attack at Mukden.
