MAJESTIC
TO-NIGHT That "East Lynne" should emerge from the Hollywood * studios in the holiday attire that it is presented at the Majestie Theatre is something to the credit of Fox Films which Movietonised this drama, for certainly the audible screen has given theatregoers here something about which they will talk for many days to come. What "East Lynne" represents in investment of dollars and cents to the producers doesn't matter, for the completed product is representative of the screen's finest achievement. In fact, Frank Lloyd, the director, did so nobly with this Movietone. treatment of "East Lynne" that no one will doubt this production will establish new high marks for patronage at the Majestie Theatre. No talking picture was more earefully produced nor more entertaining. Ann Harding never appeared to greater advantage than she does as the ill-fated Isabel who gives her life for a glimpse of the child from whom she had been driven by her husband. She attains emotional heights not reached by any other screen star to ■ date. However, Ann Harding is just one of the group of popular screen personalities in "East Lynne." In the stellar galaxy are Conrad Nagel who gives a most convincing performance as Carlyle and Clive Brook who is dashing, romantic and thoroughly at home as the lover of Isabel. Beryl Mercer, as the. sympathetic Joyce, scores a personal triumph, while Cecilia Loftus, the internationally lcnown vaudeville and musical comedy favourite, makes an auspicious debut as a Fox featured player in the role of Cornelia. The supporting east includes David Torrence, O. P. Heggie, Flora Sheffield and others.
