INSPECTION OF GALATEA ESTATE
WELGOME AT RANGITAKI On Saturday his Excellency, the Governor-General, Lord Bledi'sloe, who was accompanied by Lady Bledisloe, made a tour of inspection of the Galatea Estate, where one of the largest Government settlement schemes is.in progress. Their Excellencies were accompanied on the trip by Lady Norah Jellicoe, Mrs Veale, Sir John ILanham, A.D.C., the Hon. Sir Apirana Ngata, Minister of Native Affairs, Mr. F. L. Park, Public Works cngineer at Rotorua, Mr. Grange, Mr. H. R. N. Balnevis, the Native Minister's secretary; Dr. Wirepa, M. ,E. G. Loten, headmaster of Te Aute Maori College, Mr. W. C. Morris, principal of St. Stephen's Maori College, Chief Makea Tinirau ,of Raf otonga; and Mr. S. J. Smith, Secretary for the Cook Islands and Mr. H. Tai Mitchell. The party left RotPrua about 9.3P a.m. in beautiful weather and +ravelled through the estate as far as Mr. Grant's property and back. At Rangitaki village the party were extended a t^pical Maori welcome after which a repast was served in the meeting house. His Excellency, before his departure, addressed the natives, exhorting them to follow their leaders and to get back to their land as that was the safest means of livelihood. * On the return journey to Rotorua the party called at Lake Rerewhakaitu and arrived back at Rotorua at about 5 p.m. * Their Excellencies will leave for Auckland, where they will spend Christmas, by train this morning.
