YOUTH KILLED WHEN v CAR CRASHES INTO BRIDGE PARTY RETURNING EROM DANCE.

PALMERSTON N., Saturday. About three o'clock this morning a motor accident on Milsom's Line resulted in the death of Val Hewitt, aged 19, a bookbinder. The driver of the car was Mr. Stewart Bramwell, and the other oecupants were Miss Dala Hewitt, sister of the deceased, and Miss Madge Howell. They were returning from a dance at the Stanway School. Mr. Bramwell states that he must have dozed off, awakening to find the car on the wrong side of the road, ten yards from the Mangaone Bridge. He endeavoured to swing the car toThe centre of the road, but the side of the car struck the bridge and was badly damaged. Mr. Hewitt was apparently killed instantly. Miss Howell was removed to hospital suffering from cuts about the face. Mr. Bramwell sustained minor injuries. Miss Hewitt was not injured.
