The Vice-Regal party yesterday had a lengthy trip, visiting Ruatoki and: returning hy way of Pangoroa and Mourea. At Ruatoki, their Excellencies were welcomed by one of the largest ass'emhlies of natives "which has; taken place in the district and were: again entertained by traditional Maori hospitality. Accompanying the Vice-Regal party were Lady Norah Jellicoe, who joined their Excellencies at Rotorua yesterday, Mrs Veal, Sir John Ha'nham, A.D.C., the Minister for Native Af-* fairs, Sir Apiraina Ngata, Dr. Wirepa, Mr. E. G. Loten, headmaster of Te Aute Maori College, Mr. W . C. Morris, headmaster of St. Stephens Maori College, Mr. W-. W. Bird, chief inspector of native schools, and Chief Makea TiniraU, of Rarotdnga. At Ruatoki, Makea Tinirau addressed the assefnbled gathering pf Maori and pakeha in an eloquent speech in- . terpreted by Mr. H. T'ai Mitchell. The party inspec'ted the Maketu, Ohope, Taheke -and Mourea developmental schemes on the trip an^ his ^ Elxcellency stated that he was greatly impressed with Ihe work which was being carried out.
