master and crew refloat vessel on rising tide little damage done
— By Telegraph — Copyright).
CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. Immediately after the Breeze struek Captain McArthur made an examination of the vessel. The weather was dead cairn, with a dense fog. Two anchors were put out astern. As the tide was rising the ship was soon edged off into deep water. So rapidly was this carried out by the master and crew that very few residents of the district saw the vessel while she was on the beach. As soon as the Breeze was afloat again she disappeared in the fog. The Breeze actually struek the beach near the site of the old Port Robinson jetty. Her nose was in the bed of a small ereek which runs into the sea. It is reported that she sustained little or no damage.
