ERECTION OF GARAGE IN RESIDENTIAL AREA On the deciding vote of the. Mayor, the Rotorua Borough Council last evening refused permission for the erection of a commercial garage witla dwelling at the rear, in Tutaneka Street, opposite Waiwera House. Per mission was refused under Sectcor 34 of the Town Planning Act. The Council discussed the mattei at some length, it being pointed ouJ that under the Borough zoning plan the section where it was proposed tc erect the garage, was in a genera "residential and not the commercia" 'iarea which term:nates at the Wha 'kaue Street intersect'on. A motion was moved that the ap- • plication be refused under Section 34 of the Act, with an amendmeni that a permit be granted provided that the architectural features of the building met with the approval of ithe Council. The voting for and against the amendment was even on .'the voices and the Mayor gave his Wote with the noes. The motion was Carried.
